Our beautiful Island
Every time when I travel abroad, I come across almost the same series of questions: Who am I? Where do I come from? How am I going to introduce to foreign friends the beautiful island where I was brought up?
I know that we’re special, of course, but what makes us special? Some say it’s the street delicacies that hold appeal to people around the world; some say it’s the hospitality of locals that wins the heart of tourists.
However, after knocking around Taiwan for a few years, I come to realize that actually the magic of Taiwan lies in our diversity, both cultural and geographical, within such a confined space. It’s like dining in a high-end buffet restaurant which serves from 12 oz. Filet Mignon to a bowl of Tan Tsai Noodles. We can enjoy a walk along the misty mountain trails in Taroko George, acquire inner peace at a teahouse in Lugu , and grab a bite at the boisterous Feng Cha Night Market, which will revive our energy for the exhilarating water sports in Kenting the next day.
It’s a wonder to do all of the above in a merely 36-square-kilometer island, which, I firmly believe, is what makes our beautiful homeland one of a kind.
